About Mimjack Hampshire Down Stud

Mimjack Hampshire Down Stud was established in 2022 at Yeoval, Central West NSW, and is registered as Flock No. 273 with the Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association.

The stud was founded by Mitchell Dickens – just eight years old at the time - and his big brother, Jack, with parents Justin and Amy Dickens prompting the move so the boys could have their own responsibilities and exposure to farm business practices, from a young age.

From tagging and weighing newborn lambs within 24 hours of birth, to assisting with all animal health activities, joinings, purchases and sales, Jack and Mitchell are involved in it all.

Mimjack Hampshire Down has invested heavily into quality foundation genetics, including from respected Hampshire Down studs such as Ramsay Park (SA), Eloora (VIC), and Aurora Park (VIC).

Mimjack is proudly part of the JAD Agriculture group, which also own JAD Speckle Park + Angus Studs.

About Hampshire Down Sheep

The Hampshire Down breed is known for its outstanding eating quality traits, and explosive growth – an ideal terminal sire option in crossbreeding operations.

The decision to breed stud Hampshire Down came after using them commercially on our property, and observing this incredible growth. Our first two year-drops of Hampshire Down-cross lambs topped the Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange (CTLX) lamb sales – for that day - both years.

Many may have first heard about the Hampshire Down sheep breed through the successful pursuits of Tom Bull and the Kinross Station Hampshire Down lamb brand, which discovered Hampshire Down to be Australia’s highest ranked sheep breed for marbling and tenderness, backed by numerous industry trials.

The Hampshire Down breed is a premium terminal sire known for:

  • Rapid growth for early finishing ability

  • Excellent feed conversion

  • Muscular carcases

  • Excellent eating quality traits, for the production of high quality lamb

  • The ability to perform well on pasture, for strong commercial outcomes.

What We Believe

“If our farms are not fun, not profitable, or are too much work, our children will not want them. Romancing the next generation, is the ultimate test of sustainability" - Joel Salatin

We believe in providing opportunity for the next generation to fall in love with agriculture through exposure to all aspects. Not just ownership over decision-making, but also the responsibility involved to achieve success. The joy of teamwork, the application of science in decision-making, and the building of relationships along the way.
